How Much Toothpaste For Your Child?

For Children under 2 years old, use a smear of fluoridated toothpaste. For 2-5 year olds, a small, pea sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste on a brush is all that is needed. Supervision by parents is encouraged for good brushing technique and to avoid swallowing toothpaste.

In addition, if your child loves the taste of toothpaste and likes to swallow the paste, I would encourage the use of a "training paste" or non-fluoridated paste until your child has been taught how to spit out most of the toothpaste without swallowing it.

Adults Get More Cavities Than Kids

Modern dentistry, with the help of sealants, fluoride, and preventive care, has dramatically reduced tooth decay in children. However, there’s been an increase in decay in seniors. Some medicines dry out the mouth, for example, reducing salvia. Saliva is vital in fighting tooth decay because it helps neutralize acids, has a disinfectant quality, washes away bacteria, and helps prevent food from sticking to your teeth.

If you have questions about senior dental care, please call Dr Barrett D Straub DDS today at (855) 765-1387.

Bad Breath Can Be a Sign of Dental Problems

While bad breath might be a symptom of some other disorder, it most likely stems from dental decay and periodontitis. It's more than just socially awkward - it's a serious threat to your oral health. Periodontitis is a disease affecting gums and bone that support the teeth, and it is caused by inadequate brushing and flossing.

If you’re worried about bad breath, call us today at (855) 765-1387 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Straub. If he finds gum disease and/or dental decay, it can be treated readily. There's no need to live with bad breath, and no reason to neglect your dental health.
