COVID-19 Update

You will see changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:

• You will be screened for COVID exposure upon entering our office and your temperature will be taken and recorded.

• You will be encouraged not to arrive more than 5 minutes early.

• We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the office. You will also find some in the reception area, as well as other places in the office, for you to use as needed.

• According to CDC guidelines, all patients will be required to wear a mask while in the office. If you do not have your own, we will provide you with a mask.

• We have used heavy weight plastic to isolate two operatories and all procedures producing aerosols will be completed in these isolated operatories.

• You will see that our waiting room no longer offers magazines, newspapers, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.

• Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.

• We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

• We have implemented an online payment option, to reduce the social distance challenges of multiple people being checked out simultaneously.

Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation

Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation

The Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) was founded on the basic principle of ensuring that the high-fear patient has access to safe, comfortable care.

As a member of DOCS in the Port Washington, WI area, Dr. Straub fully supports its mission is to further scientific knowledge and professional education in conscious sedation dentistry to help create a safe and welcoming dental experience to those who avoid seeking care due to fear.

Dental Decay & Sealants

Dr. Straub will tell you that regular brushing and flossing lowers the chance of your children developing cavities. However, sometimes good habits alone aren't enough. The most decay-prone areas of teeth are the grooves and depressions on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. These vulnerable areas require further preventive care. To protect kids' teeth from decay, a plastic-like coating called a sealant should be painted on the chewing surfaces of all the back teeth.

It's a simple process that's extremely effective: studies have shown that sealants can reduce tooth decay by as much as 90% to 100%. Please call Straub Dentistry at (855) 765-1387 with any questions you may have about the benefits of using a sealant in preventing dental decay.

Dry Mouth: More Than Just a Nuisance

It should be easy to seal an envelope, but those who suffer from a condition called xerostomia, or dry mouth, usually have to reach for some tape instead. Dry mouth can not only hinder your enjoyment of food, but affect the health of your teeth. Heavy plaque and food accumulations tend to occur with this condition, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.

Saliva is the body's self-cleansing mechanism. It helps remove food, debris, and plaque from the tooth surfaces, protecting you from oral diseases. It cleans your teeth and neutralizes acids, which prevents tooth decay. People who have dry mouth are very susceptible to cavities, especially on the roots of their teeth, so please call us today at (855) 765-1387 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Barrett Straub.
